My mate Viridiana.

Today I met a pretty girl. Her name is Viridiana and she looks friendly and loyal but she also looks so shy, I think so when I look at her. Well, she is from another city but now she lives here in Puebla because travel every day is complicated. She lives with her aunt but I don’t Know her name yet.

Viridiana’s mom is a housewife and her father works in a farm. She also has to siblings, a sister who is younger than her and a brother who is younger too. She loves her family because they are the most important support to her.

She studies English Language Teaching at the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla.  She really wants to learn German, but in the future because now she is worried about her English. She also dreams with travel around the world and visit beautiful places where she could use her knowledge.

She doesn’t mention details about her personal life but I want to know her better because she is a nice girl. I think we could be good friends and work together to improve our English.

My ex mates.

It happened when I was 19, I was in my first week at my English four class. The teacher was the same as in English three.  I remember that I sat with Silvia but when the teacher told us the activity I had to move around.  I had met some of my classmates before but not all of them.

My partner was a pretty girl, Viridiana. She was new in the faculty because she revalidated her subjects. I remember her face highly, she was terrified.  When I saw her, I remembered me in English three. My feelings were the same, I felt scared, I wanted scream but I didn’t do it.

Viridiana didn´t want to speak, I had to start. At the beginning she was so shy but I told her that was not a big deal. I spoke about my family, my dreams and some of my background, some of my words were uncommon to her but I tried to explain her each one of them.

She spoke just a little, I remember. Viridiana had a boyfriend but she didn’t mention his name, she came from a town near to Puebla but it was in another city. She had two siblings, they were younger than her. She used to dream with travel, learn German and be a good teacher. Her father worked in a farm and her mom was a housewife, Viridiana didn’t mention details.

Then the teacher told us we had to change our partners. My second mate was a girl, Edith. Her full name was Blanca Edith but she just preferred the first. Edith started to tell me about Abigail. When I heard that name speedily remember her face. We were in the same English class at the beginning of the career.

Edith told me that Abi really loved animals; she used to want study Veterinary. She lived with her family and she was from Puebla too. She didn’t eat meat because she wanted take care about animals. Abigail was excited to be a teacher and travel a lot. I noticed Edith had a good level. I really miss my ex mates. Was a good time with them, they taught me a lot of things.

Someone who I admire.

I want to talk about a special man. His name is Juan Orozco an auxiliary policeman in Mexico city. Maybe you heard about him because some months ago the team "Capital 21" shared a video, an interview where Juan told us about his own learning.  He started to work at International Airport of Mexico but he was unable to speak with tourists, for this reason he decieded take a course of idioms.

Now, after six years Juan Orozco is able to speak French, Italian, German, Japanese and Korean. He learned French and Italian at Cele of UNAM then he started to learn by himself. Juan bought a course from USA to learn more quick. He had a lot of references from others countries. Also, Juan is the only one policeman who speak 6 idioms here in México.
He was hired by Discovery chanel to record a special documentary. Currently he's working in Coyoacan, Mexico, DF. I really admire his autonomy to learn, I think he is a great example for me and obviously for us. :)

Day of the dead

Day of the dead

As you know we are rich in traditions, every year we make a lot of things for this date, especially in the towns I think we are more traditionalists. My family usually put a big altar for our forefathers. My mom always cooks special food such as mole, Calabaza dulce, tamales, arroz con leche.  In the altar we also put a glass of water, a small plate with salt and finally some photos to remember. We decorate our altar whit a special king of paper called “papel picado”, whit candles, and some candies. The main idea is prepare the favorite food of the dead and put in the altar his favorite things.
We always put this after October 29 or a few days later. All my family usually go to the cementery to clean the graves, and left flowers. The most popular flowers for this date are “cempasúchitl” The altar is decorated with these flowers, because is one of the most important things in those days. Other special thing is “calaverita” It is a typical candy for this date, could be made of sugar, chocolate, amaranth, sweet potato or coconut. I love these candies. I think, is very delicious and it has a big significance, we put the name of our dead in the face of the calaverita.
Our altar has 7 different levels

(From the top to down)
·      *  First level: Has a photo of the saint that you or your family belief.
·  *Second level: It is make to the souls of the purgatory, it serve to the soul can have permission to go out.
·         *Level 3: People usually put in their altars a little plate whit salt because this meaning the purification of the soul, especially for children.
·         *Level 4: The typical bread is here for the soul who is coming.
·         *Level 5: Food and fruit.
·        * Level 6: A photo of our dead.
·         *Level 7: In this level, we make a cross with different king of things ( fruit, seeds, cinder, lime)

The main elements.

·         Water: It is for the souls, because they come thirsting.
·         Candles: The meaning is "the light to guide the souls to their old homes and to guide his last destination.
·         Papel picado: It means wind and joyfulness.
·         Flowers:  To decorate the place, the petals of cempazuchitl make a road to guide all the souls.  White flowers meaning the heaven, yellow flowers represent the earth and purple flowers represent mourning, praise and these flowers cleaned evil souls.
·         Calaveras de azucar: It means “The death always is here”.

Greetings and customs.

Greetings depend on where you are, age, type of relationship or kinship.  Today I'm going to talk about greetings around the world.  We are going to start with India, As you know Indian people have a lot of awesome traditions but one of the big differences its culture is when they greet to others . Every Time that they want to say hello, they do a reverence like in the Namaste it meaning respect, humility, also it's used to say thank you and apologize.
There are many countries whose greetings are restricted, for example Finland, you can't hug someone who's not of your family, but here in Latin America we can do it because its meaning is affection and warmth.
Shake hands is another way to say hello. In Europe people usually shaking hands and see fixedly to the person but in japan you can´t do this, you have to looking down, they do this for respect.  In Arab countries people usually do a lot of contact when they greet. But just for men because they can't touch women.
There are countries where people kiss when they greet. Central European countries such as Switzerland and the Netherlands they greet with three kisses, starting with the cheek right, then left and finally right. In Latin America people usually give just a kiss on the cheek but in some countries of Russia the men usually kiss on their lips. As you could see there are a lot of differences between the countries and their greetings and coustums.
